Overview - Order Creation

Modified on Tue, 2 Sep at 5:39 PM

As part of the user journey for an e-commerce brand, one of the most critical steps is to assign a received order to a courier partner and ensure its successful delivery to the end customer.

To achieve this, brands typically collaborate with multiple courier partners. However, managing different formats and operational logics for each courier can quickly become complex and challenging. To simplify this process, Clickpost has partnered with a wide network of courier companies and integrated their APIs. This enables brands to interact with a single, unified system through Clickpost, eliminating the need to manage multiple integrations or formats individually.

Once a brand is integrated with Clickpost, they can easily assign any order to a courier partner. In response, the courier partner generates a tracking number (AWB/Airwaybill number) and a shipping label, which are shared back with Clickpost. This process of generating an AWB and label is referred to as Order Creation.

Additionally, brands have the flexibility to configure and manage multiple accounts within a courier partner’s setup, based on specific business needs. Orders are created at the account level, allowing for more granular control and customization.

What is the process of Order Creation?

To create an order or generate an AWB:

  1. Brand Request – The brand sends an order creation request to the Clickpost Order Creation API.

  2. Clickpost Processing – Clickpost converts the request into the format required by the selected courier partner.

  3. Courier Partner Response – The courier partner processes the request and responds with either:

    • An AWB number and shipping label, or

    • An error message if the creation fails.

  4. Standardized Response – Clickpost translates the courier’s response into a unified format and sends it back to the brand.

This ensures brands only interact with a single standardized API, while Clickpost manages all courier-specific complexities in the background.
